A man attacked three people with a bladed weapon at Winterthur train station on Thursday morning. The bladed-weapon attack in Switzerland injured three before the perpetrator was arrested by police, the Canton of Zurich authorities confirmed.
On 28 May 2026, the attack occurred shortly after 8:30 a.m. at one of the main entry points into Zurich canton’s second-largest city.
The suspected perpetrator, a 31-year-old Swiss man, was detained at the scene.
The three victims are Swiss citizens aged 28, 43, and 52. They were all taken to the hospital. Their conditions have not yet been disclosed.
The response drew resources from across the region. Zurich cantonal police, Winterthur city police, the SBB transport police, the rescue service of the Winterthur cantonal hospital, and Zurich’s protection and rescue service were all deployed to the station.
The motive for the attack is under investigation.
Winterthur station is one of the busiest commuter hubs in the canton, handling tens of thousands of passengers daily on services connecting Zürich, St. Gallen, Schaffhausen and the surrounding region. Thursday morning is a peak travel time, and the attack will have caused significant disruption to the morning rush.
