Zurich Insurance Group has secured all required regulatory approvals for its acquisition of British speciality insurer Beazley, putting the roughly $11 billion deal on track to close on 1 October 2026, pending a final court hearing in London.
One Hurdle Remains: A London Court Hearing
Beazley confirmed on Monday that all necessary regulatory approvals for the transaction have now been granted, including sign-off from Switzerland’s financial market supervisory authority, FINMA. Other regulators, including the European Commission, had already cleared the deal earlier in the process.
The final condition for completion on the targeted date is approval from the competent London court, which has scheduled a hearing on the matter for 22 September 2026. Assuming the court approves the transaction at that hearing, Beazley’s shares (currently traded on the London Stock Exchange) would be delisted, and payment to Beazley shareholders would follow by 15 October 2026.
Zurich Insurance had previously said it expected the acquisition to be completed in the second half of 2026, a timeline that this latest update confirms is on track.
Zurich-Beazley Deal: Terms And Strategic Rationale
Zurich Insurance submitted a binding offer for Beazley in March, valuing the British insurer at just under $11 billion. Beazley shareholders approved the transaction in April.
Together, Zurich and Beazley aim to become a leading global player in speciality insurance lines, including cyber risk, infrastructure and renewable energy coverage — segments where Beazley has built particular expertise.
With regulatory clearance now complete, the deal’s remaining timeline is straightforward: the London court hearing on 22 September 2026 is the last formal checkpoint before closing. If the court grants approval as expected, the transaction would close on 1 October 2026, Beazley would exit the London Stock Exchange, and shareholder payments would be finalized within two weeks, by October 15.
The completion would mark the end of a process that began with Zurich’s initial approach to Beazley in early 2026 and has since cleared competition and prudential regulators across multiple jurisdictions, including the EU and Switzerland.
