Swiss Re’s Corporate Solutions division is relocating technology jobs to India, Mexico and Slovakia while eliminating IT positions in the United States and at its Manchester centre, according to an internal memo from outgoing tech chief Florian Maurer reported by a local financial blog on 21 September 2026.
An internal email sent by Managing Director Florian Maurer last Thursday informed the IT team at CorSo (Swiss Re’s commercial reinsurance arm for large corporations) that their jobs would be relocated to India, Mexico and Slovakia. The stated rationale, quoted directly from Maurer’s memo, is to “strengthen our capabilities, enhance our resilience and operate more efficiently.”
Under the plan, Swiss Re’s existing IT hubs in Bangalore and Hyderabad, India, are set to expand, along with the technology centre in Bratislava, the capital of Slovakia. The Corporate Solutions division already maintains substantial technology operations across these locations and has a presence in Mexico City, as shown by the company’s current career listings, which include active technology roles in Bangalore, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Bratislava, and Mexico City.
The losers in this reshuffling are notable: Swiss Re is largely eliminating its CorSo IT jobs in the US, and its IT centre in Manchester, England, is also losing positions. Switzerland itself goes unmentioned in Maurer’s memo.
Did Maurer accelerate the India/overseas outsourcing shortly before his own departure?
Given that his move to CSS was confirmed as far back as June 2026 with a November 1 start date, and this memo was sent in mid-September, the sequencing is consistent: Maurer would have had roughly six to seven weeks left in his Swiss Re role when the memo went out, making a final restructuring push before handover plausible, though Swiss Re has not publicly commented on this specific characterization.
Swiss Re Shifts CorSo IT Jobs To India: Verifying Maurer’s Departure To CSS
The claim that Florian Maurer is leaving for health insurer CSS is independently and thoroughly confirmed, but with an important timeline correction. Multiple Swiss outlets reported in June 2026 that CSS had already appointed Maurer as its new Head of ICT & Data, effective November 1, 2026, with him joining the CSS executive board (Geschäftsleitung) at the same time.
According to CSS’s own June 2026 announcement, Maurer spent more than 17 years at Swiss Re, most recently serving as Managing Director and Chief Digital & Technology Commercial Insurance, where he led the entire technology and data organization for Corporate Solutions, encompassing more than 700 internal and external staff. His appointment at CSS was still subject to regulatory approval at the time of the June announcement, and he currently succeeds interim ICT & Data head Yves Mundorff, with predecessor Thomas Kühn having departed CSS the previous December.
This means Maurer’s move to CSS was already public knowledge for roughly three months before this internal memo was sent.
